Yogyakarta, Indonesia’s best kept secret

I have to be honest, until recently Indonesia hasn’t been on my radar. I never considered Indonesia a great place for a family holiday but after doing some research I think I might have sold it a bit short. My research has found plenty of interesting places to visit in Yogyakarta. Being Australian we think we know everything about Indonesia from all that we have heard from other people, in particular Bali. I am happy to say that I have discovered somewhere that has really piqued my interest!  (more…)

Air Asia – Do I have the right to be upset?? – Family Travel Blog – Travelling with Kids

My Air Asia review is not as scathing as many others online when you google Air Asia. For months now I’ve been organising an upcoming trip to Japan with my mum, sister and Alannah as a celebration for Alannah finishing primary school. I want the kids to have some special memories of being with  family when they are older.  (more…)

Vaccinations – The ugly side of travel – Travelling with Kids

Last night you might have seen my post on Instagram about having the kids vaccinated for our upcoming trip to Vietnam. It wasn’t fun, so I thought I would provide some tips about what I learnt last night. Australians are advised to have a number of vaccinations for Vietnam but ultimately its up to the individual. We prefer to be play it safe when it comes to the kids and get the advised vaccinations. (more…)

Australia Day Weekend in Sydney – Family Travel Blog – Travelling With Kids

We thought it was about time we returned to Sydney as a family to visit some friends that we met while we were living there from 2010 – 2012. We made some wonderful friends while we were there and many have come to Melbourne to visit us. We love to see them and show them around our wonderful home town but we are especially excited to be returning as a family to check out all the old haunts! I have been back a couple of times to visit Keira’s friend Bella but this time we will visit friends of Lanni’s and our lovely neighbours in Brooks Circuit.

How can you not want to experience this!

My dream – Where to go for a White Christmas for 2016 or 2017….

Who from the Southern Hemisphere wouldn’t like to experience a White Christmas right? That’s what I keep telling my sister and her husband when I am trying to talk her into taking a family holiday to experience a northern hemisphere Christmas. Once I win her over, I will mention it to the rest of the family and see if I can get some traction on this wild pipe dream of mine! I’ve told her I’ve made a hash tag for it so it has to happen, doesn’t it! (more…)

2 weeks until departure – the ‘to do’ list!

Its just over 2 weeks until we leave for our first visit to Asia since having the kids. I must admit I am a little overwhelmed or should I say consumed with what needs to be done, redone, checked and packed! I hate to say it but am I turning into my mum! (not that I would be too upset, as she’s a good old bird!). Mum packs for weeks before she leaves and my sister and I always giggle about it but here’s me 2 weeks out from our trip thinking, is it too early to get the suitcases out and start packing? Am I just really excited or should I really be considering packing! I have always considered packing and more so unpacking a necessary evil and certainly not the best part of travelling. My attitude has always been, well if you don’t have it buy it or go with out. There is a certain amount of organisation required when traveling with kids though. So see below how I am turning over a new leaf and for this trip I am going to be, you heard it here first, organised!
