For a short stay in Langkawi Malaysia, we managed to fit a lot in. It’s a beautiful island and surprisingly they pack a punch with things to do in Langkawi with kids! I didn’t realise before our visit that Langkawi is extremely kid friendly and we had plenty to keep our kids busy and entertained.

Langkawi is a one hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, by the time the seat belt sign goes off you pretty much start to descend for landing. The views coming in to land are worth paying for a window seat for! We thought about getting the ferry from Penang to Langkawi but with the flight being so short we decided to leave Penang to another time.
Langkawi has a very temperate climate and it is hot and humid most of the time. We were there at the start of the wet season and we had a couple of downpours but they didn’t stick around for too long and it didn’t stop us doing any of the popular Langkawi activities for kids. I was surprised as there is a lot of striations in Langkawi for families.

Top things to do in Langkawi with kids
In this post I have listed my top things to do in Langkawi with kids. Â There a few that the adults are going to love too. I had always thought that Penang was more family friendly which couldn’t be further from the truth, there’s plenty of great things to do in Langkawi with children.
SkyCab and Sky Bridge
I have to start my list of Langkawi things to do with the number 1 attraction!
The Langkawi SkyCab and Sky Bridge are the number one Langkawi attraction for family and I can see why. Jump into one of the gondolas that provide 360 degree views down to the Machincang Cambrian Geoforest Park below, out to the ocean and across to Pantai Kok.
The Langkawi Sky Bridge at 600m above sea level and 100m above the tree tops is suspended by a single pylon. The bridge is curved and 125m in length, providing views across the Geoforest Park and the island and out to the ocean on the other side.

Paradise Island 101
Paradise Island, by far one of the best things to in Langkawi, is a man made adventure island owned and managed by NAAM Adventures. The island can be hired for the day and has adventure activities to suit everyone. A private Langkawi island for kids that they will definitely love. The kids had a wonderful time playing on the aqua play ground, zip lining, jet skiing and even had a ride on the banana boat. You can also do parasailing from the island and there will be new activities and experience coming soon. We enjoyed a buffet lunch and the bar there serves anything you could possible what.

Kilim Karst Geoforest Park
Kilim Karst Geoforest Park is located on the north east side of the island. I think it is one of the best places to visit in Langkawi. The area is pristine and beautiful and the Kilim River and extensive mangrove eco-system is a UNESCO World Heritage area. We visited the bat cave and walked through to see 100’s of little bat’s resting on the ceiling of the cave.
From here we experienced the mangroves and the eagles that swoop down to collect there meals from the fish swimming in water. We explored millions of years old fossils that have been found in the area and had lunch at a floating restaurant on Kilim River.
The scenery is breath taking and you are even able to kayak through the estuary on a kayaking tour. There are so many fun things to do in Langkawi and Kilim Karst Geoforest Park is a great place to start if you’re the adventurous and outdoorsy type.

3D Art in Paradise
These 3D Art studios are popping up all over the place and one of the most popular activities in Langkawi. This one is exceptionally good not only because it’s lots of fun but because the studio gives you a reprieve from the heat!
The kids were running from picture to picture before I had a chance to snap the shot. Everyone was getting into the spirit and taking some pretty cool shots. We had lots of fun here and its a great family fun activity in Langkawi.

Underwater World Langkawi
One of the largest aquariums in Asia and a must visit attraction in Langkawi, Underwater World Langkawi has over 3000 marine animals on display. Located on the coast near Pantai Cenang the aquarium consists of 3 different sections including Tropical Rainforest, Temperate and Sub-Antractic.
Popular attractions include the rockefeller penguins and other types of penguins which always draw a crowd. Last but not least is the underwater tunnel tanks that house sharks, giant sting rays and green turtles.

Langkawi Wildlife Park
The Langkawi Wildlife Park is fully under cover meaning that you can visit in any weather, making it one of the popular things to see in Langkawi. It resembles a tropical rainforest and provided you are there at the right times, you will be able to participate in animal feedings. After entry you walk straight into an enormous bird aviary, with numerous macaws on display.
Well, macaws are my favourite animals ever so I was pretty impressed straight up. Not to mention I got to feed one. I was pretty impressed with the number of birds on display. There are plenty of other animals as well including an emu, flamingos, crocodiles, rabbits, fish, snakes. 150 species of animal call this park home.

Langkawi Night Market
The Langkawi Night Market is held in a different location each night. The markets are not only a tourist attraction but used by locals for their daily requirements. These markets offer an extensive array of inexpensive clothes, fresh produce, trinkets, watches, sunglasses, wallets and handbags, paintings, DVDs and many other knick-knacks.
Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s certainly worth a visit for the experience and the traditional local food of Malaysia.
Aseania Cultural Show and Buffet Dinner
We love taking the kids to a cultural show when we are travelling, a relaxed place to visit on your family vacation!
We feel that its a great way to give kids an appreciation of different cultures through dance and plays. We have always found that the kids really connect with this type of show and this one was no different.
The kids sat up front and centre and took in the whole show and experience from start to finish. They were a bit to shy to join in though when the dancers asked them to jump up on stage!
The buffet dinner was extensive, everything you could possibly imagine and then some! All local favourites and plenty of western options also. Â You certainly won’t leave hungry, especially after the dessert table full of sweets, chocolate fondant and all the tropical fruit varieties available.
There is also a brilliant seafood restaurant at this hotel if you are looking for a great traditional meal, this is your place.

Sunset Dinner Cruise
There are a number of sunset dinner cruises to choose from, it was my favourite Langkawi attraction because I love sunsets. We did one with NAAM Adventures and having already spent a day with them at Paradise 101 we were certain it would be an amazing experience. We weren’t wrong.
We arrived at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club and were greeted by the crew and taken to our yacht. After boarding we headed out to sea and found a nice spot close to Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park.
A floating pool was clipped on to the rear of the yacht and we were able to have a swim in the ocean, best infinity pool I’ve ever seen! After dinner we had a nice buffet dinner and watched the sun set with soft pastel pinks through to a burst of vibrant yellow and orange.

These are only a some of the best Langkawi attractions for kids. I definitely could have stayed longer and I’m certain I would have found plenty to do in Langkawi with family activities being plentiful.

Best hotel in Langkawi
We stayed at the Meritus Pelangi Resort & Spa, we highly recommend it as a place to stay, great location and only a short walk to Pantai Cenang. There are so many different places to stay that will suit everyone’s budget. However there are many places to stay in Langkawi and my go-to for hotel booking in Asia is Agoda.

Thanks for your comment. I was really surprised by the amount of things to do with kids, the Malaysian people are extremely friendly and kind to children also. Even though we did a load of things when we were in Langkawi, if we returned tomorrow there are still things we haven’t done yet. I’d got back in a heart beat too!
