Is it Burma or Myanmar? A lot of people ask this question, closely followed by “when did Burma become Myanmar?”. I can tell you that the Military Junta of the time changed the name in 1989 but both names are widely used both there and abroad. Our 2 week Myanmar family vacation was fantastic yet challenging at the same time. Things to do in Bagan with kids

Visiting the Bagan temples was the highlight of our trip to Myanmar. I had seen many photos of Bagan and while I knew what to expect, I didn’t expect Bagan to take my breath away. It gave me the same tingles as when I first sighted Angkor Wat. I wasn’t surprised that the kids loved Bagan as well. Here’s our top things to do in Bagan with kids.

Things to do in Mandalay with kids

I have to admit, Mandalay wasn’t our favourite place to visit in Myanmar. Mandalay city is quite industrial and lacks a lot of character compared to Yangon. The hustle and bustle of Yangon is very similar to many other South East Asian countries. I was very excited to be visiting a new and relatively undiscovered country. Myanmar is changing rapidly with all the western influence creeping in since its opened up in 1992 and now no longer under military rule. I’ve always said it and I’ll say it again, there’s something special about Shangri-La Hotels, I call it ‘the Shangri-La Way’ something that stands out and a welcome you won’t receive any where else. The Sule Shangri-La Hotel, a very popular luxury hotel in Yangon Myanmar was no different, once you step inside those doors, you know you’re about to experience something truly wonderful and it never fails to impress. Sedona Hotel Yangon, Myanmar – Hotel Review

We recently stayed at the Sedona Hotel Yangon, a perfect little oasis located across from Inya Lake away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Yangon. The Sedona Hotel Yangon was definitely one of the top places to stay in Yangon. This was the first stop on a 2 week journey around Myanmar, taking in Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, Inle Lake before heading back to Yangon for our departure. We were full of anticipation and excitement at visiting a new country in South East Asia, one of our favourite places to travel as a family. (more…)
