After checking out of the Tamar Valley Resort, we headed north for our final night in Tasmania. We had a night booked at the Beauty Point Riviera Hotel that evening. During our recent trip to Tasmania we spent the Sunday at Cradle Mountain and that was our last day with Craig, that evening we dropped him at Launceston Airport so that he could return to Melbourne for work on Monday morning. The kids and I continued on with our holiday before returning to Melbourne the following Friday. We had hoped to visited Mole Creek Cave on the way home from Cradle Mountain with Craig. (more…)
We went to Perth for the weekend to visit family and while we were there we took the Rottnest Island ferry with the kids to spend the day on Rottnest Island. Perth really put on the weather for us and we got a fantastic day about 20 degrees with bright sunshine and blue skies, more like a spring day than the middle of winter and I couldn’t have been happier. The kids and I arrived in the Friday morning on the Spirit of Tasmania, Craig wasn’t flying in until that night so I wanted something to do with the kids that was local and not too far to go. I had been to Cataract Gorge before and thought that would be a great option to keep the kids busy for a few hours. While in Launceston we stayed at Swamp Cottage which is not far at all Cataract Gorge.
Unfortunately we chose the worst day to go to one of the most beautiful places in Tasmania, Cradle Mountain, but luckily it does not take away from the beauty of the place. Cradle Mountain with kids is amazing, a prefect place for them to explore and get out and get dirty. (more…)
Over the June school holidays we took the Spirit of Tasmania for a quick winter break. The ship docked at 6am and we were off soon after 6.30am. Finding suitable family accommodation Launceston was relatively easy. We arrived on the Friday morning and we had a house booked through Stayz for two nights over the weekend in Launceston. Craig was flying in that evening as he had work commitments and could only get away for the weekend. (more…)
During early February the Spirit Of Tasmania was advertising a ‘kids sail free’ promotion for the ferry to Tasmania from Melbourne on certain dates over winter. Being the avid traveller I am, I had to check it out as it seemed too good to be true. (more…)
For those of you following Sally on Facebook you’ll know she’s down in Tasmania with the kids for the school holidays. Unfortunately for me (or maybe fortunately) I don’t get as much leave from work as Sal so I had to settle for just the weekend and have spent the last 3 days at home on my own. This little blog is my payment for a little surprise Sally gave me when I caught up with them last weekend. A round of golf at Barnbougle Dunes Golf Course!
So here’s the thing, I’m getting old and I’m not in the loop anymore! I had a night in town a couple of weeks ago with a friend. We were going to have dinner and then go out on the town, problem was neither of us could name a place that attracts our ‘age group’. (more…)
We took the opportunity to visit the Cape Otway Lighthouse on a recent trip to Apollo Bay. The lighthouse is a short drive off the Great Ocean Rd through the Cape Otway National Park. You can read about our experience spotting cute cuddly koalas. (more…)
