Over our June long weekend we took the kids to Apollo Bay located along the iconic Great Ocean Road about 2.5 hours from Melbourne. The Otway Fly Treetop Adventure is 40kms from Apollo Bay and that took about 40mins because its a very windy road, so if you’re a person that gets a motion sickness you might struggle a bit! Now who doesn’t love koalas, Australia’s famous little cuddly looking bears. We spent the long weekend at Apollo Bay on the Great Ocean Rd and when we visited the Cape Otway National Park, driving through the eucalyptus trees you could see the koalas in the trees. People had pulled over to the side of the road all the way down into the Cape Otway Lighthouse. We stopped and jumped out with the kids so that they could have a look at koalas in their natural habitat. (more…)
I just walked in the door, unpacked and put a load of washing on and thought it a good time to fill you in on our long weekend. We headed off down the Great Ocean Rd for 3 days, even though it was winter I thought it was still as good a time as any for a visit. Nothing like taking an independent Great Ocean Road tour and stop when you like and stay for as long as you like. (more…)
Over the years while the kids were young, we have gone to Queensland on a few occasions to visit the theme parks. Depending what age the kids are at the time, depends on which parks we visit. Most recently we visited SeaWorld, Wet’n’Wild and Movieworld on a VIP 3 park super pass. We even managed to get a special price of buy 3 get one pass free which saved us $89. Its definitely one of the better Gold Coast theme park packages. (more…)
This Saturday marks the 100th anniversary of when the Aussie diggers landed at Gallipoli. There are a lot of commemorative celebrations going on all around the world but in particular here in Australia. I would have loved to have been part of the remembrance ceremony going on at ANZAC Cove in Gallipoli, Turkey but that is not going to happen this year. Mark my words though I will take the kids there one day before they’re all grown up and doing their own thing. For now I’ll just celebrate here in Australia on the day we call ANZAC Day. (more…)
Over Easter we embarked on a road trip to southern New South Wales to pick up the camper trailer we purchased online. We left on Thursday afternoon and drove 6 hours to Orbost. Finding suitable Orbost accommodation wasn’t that much of a struggle. (more…)
Over the Easter long weekend we finally visited Cape Conran in East Gippsland. I say finally because my friend has been going there for 14 years and has asked me pretty much every year to come along but for various reasons we just haven’t gotten around to going. What a mistake, big mistake! (more…)
Last weekend Keira and I flew up to Sydney to visit her friend Bella. We do this regularly as Bella is Keira’s best friend from when we lived in Sydney, kinda strange as they’re only 7 but they are like 2 old women and love each others company like no other. Helps that I kinda like Bella’s mum Venessa. (more…)
Each afternoon Craig and I would go to the Shed Bar at Nomad’s Backpackers for happy hour between 4pm-5pm and the kids would have a play on the grass in front of the pool. Each afternoon the same barman was working, a backpacker from the UK. He asked what we had planned for our final day in Airlie Beach and at that stage we had nothing planned. He gave a great spot to visit to kill the day, lunch at Hydeaway Bay. (more…)
On the March long weekend we took a short 4 day break to what is regularly voted Australia’s most photographed beach – Whitehaven Beach, in what we call Far North Queensland. I’m glad to say it certainly didn’t disappoint. (more…)
