On the March Labour Day long weekend, Craig and I took the kids for a short 4 day break to Airlie Beach. There are so many things to do at Airlie Beach but I was certain of one, I wanted to take the kids to Whitehaven Beach. Nearly 30 years ago I promised someone  very special who has since passed away that I would get there one day and now I have done it with my family. Nomad’s Airlie Beach Backpackers – Family Travel Blog – Travelling with Kids

We recently spent 3 days at Airlie Beach in Tropical North Queensland, gateway to the Whitsundays. On this occasion we didn’t have to take the kids out of school because they have curriculum days on the Thursday and Friday before our Labour Day long weekend. While I can imagine its difficult for some, its actually pretty good for me! To save some money we decided to stay at Nomads Airlie Beach, its in a great location and very economical price wise.  (more…)

Day 3 – Snorkelling the Reef

We had booked a trip to the outer reef with Quiksilver Reef Cruises. I was warned to take seasick tablets as the ride out could be a little rough. I heeded that advice, many didn’t & paid the price. I wondered when we left the dock, why the cruise staff were standing around with airline sick bags, I soon found out!! Luckily not for us!! It was pretty choppy & I was glad to get out to the reef.  It takes approximately 1.5hrs to get out to the outer reef.

QLD Road Trip – January 2014

Craig & I decided (well I decided!) mid last year, that the weather in Melbourne is too unpredictable for a nice warm holiday for the Christmas/ New Year break. We have spent plenty of New Years Eve’s shivering on the Great Ocean Road so this year we decided we would hit the road for the all Australian road trip!! (more…)
