Port Fairy Instameet – 26-28 February 2016 – Family Travel Blog

Last weekend we joined around 30 other Instagramers in Port Fairy on the south-west coast of Victoria. Port Fairy is just past Warnabool at the end of the Great Ocean Road. The Great Ocean Road suffered devastating bushfires that affected the busiest time for holiday income. Hopefully our Instameet has bought some much needed publicity and will encourage people to return to the area and assist the locals recover. We found plenty of things to do in Port Fairy for the kids.

The idea of an Instameet is for people that use Instagram and enjoy taking photos, to meet up at local places, take photos and promote them on their Instagram pages. I had met one couple there at the first Instameet I went to on the Bellarine Peninsula and had stayed in touch. When they organised this one, I thought that would be a nice weekend away and I had never been to Port Fairy so it was an opportunity to visit another coastal town.

The Instagramers!

Here is a list of some the Instagramers that I can recall. At times there where as many as 30 of us so if I have missed anyone I’m happy to add them later. If your on Instagram make sure you give all the ones below a follow or if your looking for any of the photos from the weekend the hashtag for the event was #portfairyinstameet.

Message in a bottle!

Over the weekend we got the kids to write messages and we put them in glass bottles and threw them into the river when the tide was going out. Hopefully someone will find one of them and send us an email to tell us where they found it. The kids loved it, not sure they will make it to Africa like Caelan hoped but if it makes it to Warrnambool I would be really happy!

As you can see, we had lots of fun in Port Fairy. Thanks to all the people that came and made it so much fun. If there’s an Instameet in your local area make sure you go along and meet some cool people and capture some great shots. We are already looking forward to the next one.

I have a few ideas for upcoming Instameets, Phillip Island would be a great spot, as with Goughs Bay where my brother has a holiday house. The 12 Apostles is just down the road from Port Fairy but it would definitely be a great Instameet spot as with Cape Conran another amazing spot which is often overlooked as it’s a bit of a hike from Melbourne.

Have you ever been to an Instameet? Tell me about it in the comments.

Happy travels!

Sal & Co.
